Rickshaw Y’All

A few posts back, I lamented about the lack of show venues in East Van. What I failed to mention is the growth of new ones; primarily the Rickshaw Theatre (254 E. Hastings St). Originally a kung-fu cinema owned by one of the Shaw Brothers (yes, Five Deadly Venoms, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin), it closed in 84′ and now renovated and reopened by Malice Leveit, formally of the Sweatshop. It now caters its 500 capacity seating to hipsters and metal heads. I’d love to see a rap show booked here. From the looks of it, this joint’s nice.
